But in 1862, parts of the system were destroyed by a great flood. However, the rebuild resulted in even more expansion for the company. It was in 1822 that the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company became incorporated and became a publicly traded company. Due to its great success, the stock started selling left and right. Although there is some form of Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company in business, the company was sold in the 1960s for recreational use to public and private organizations.
